Transgender Emotional Awareness Scale &

Hormone-Related Emotional Changes Inventory

I developed these resources as part of my final project for one of my classes as a clinical mental health counseling graduate student. We were tasked with creating a counseling program for the population we hope to work with upon graduation, and I chose to develop a program aimed at helping trans clients receiving gender affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) develop an awareness of their emotions and track any changes they notice, so these changes can become a part of therapy if they would like support.

After starting testosterone myself a couple of years ago, I didn’t realize that my experience of emotions had drastically changed until I failed to notice my building anxiety until I was in the midst of a panic attack while out walking my dogs. I wasn’t aware of or prepared for how my emotions would change regarding how they feel in my body and my general awareness of them. So, I created two assessments that would have really helped me as part of this final project.

I’m sharing them because after asking a group of counselors currently working with trans folks to give feedback on them, the majority asked if they could use my assessments in their practices.
